On Some Generalizations of Fermat's, Lucas's and Wilson's Theorems
“Never underestimate a theorem that counts something!” – or so says J. Fraleigh in his classic text [2]. Indeed, in [1] and [4], the authors derive Fermat’s (little), Lucas’s and Wilson’s theorems, among other results, all from a single combinatorial lemma. This lemma can be derived by applying Burnside’s theorem to an action by a cyclic group of prime order. In this note, we generalize this le...
متن کاملSolvable Fusion Categories and a Categorical Burnside’s Theorem
The goal of this talk is to explain the classical representation-theoretic proof of Burnside’s theorem in finite group theory, stating that a finite group of order pq (where p, q are primes) is solvable, and then define the notion of a solvable fusion category and explain how to generalize Burnside’s theorem to the categorical setting. This generalization is joint work with D. Nikshych and V. O...
متن کاملConvolution Equivalence and Infinite Divisibility: Corrections and Corollaries
Corrections are made to formulations and proofs of some theorems about convolution equivalence closure for random sum distributions. These arise because of the falsity of a much used asymptotic equivalence lemma, and they impinge on the convolution equivalence closure theorem for general infinitely divisible laws.
متن کاملRepresentation Theory of Finite Groups and Burnside’s Theorem
In this paper we develop the basic theory of representations of finite groups, especially the theory of characters. With the help of the concept of algebraic integers, we provide a proof of Burnside’s theorem, a remarkable application of representation theory to group theory.
متن کاملSimultaneous generalizations of known fixed point theorems for a Meir-Keeler type condition with applications
In this paper, we first establish a new fixed point theorem for a Meir-Keeler type condition. As an application, we derive a simultaneous generalization of Banach contraction principle, Kannan's fixed point theorem, Chatterjea's fixed point theorem and other fixed point theorems. Some new fixed point theorems are also obtained.
